Vintage Jewelry Box DIY
These double stained paper mache boxes give a realistic vintage look by using coffee and tea bags. Fill them with colored tissue paper and vintage costume jewelry to wow your guests and/or wedding party.
Materials Needed
Small Paper Mache Boxes
Ground Coffee
Tea Bags
Heat Gun
Gold Tissue Paper (or other color)
Costumer Jewelry
Ribbon
Brew 1 cup of coffee with 2 cups of water. Make sure coffee is hot when ready to use, reheating in microwave as necessary. Take a tea bag and steep in the hot coffee for 1 minute. Squeeze coffee from tea bag onto paper mache box and move around with tea bag to cover area. Dry using the heat gun (puddling and drying will create a more dramatic effect). Repeat stain process until you have reached a desired color. Remove lid and rub out any lines using the coffee soaked tea bag. Apply more coffee with tea bag to areas where lid was and dry with heat gun. Use tea bag to smooth out any unwanted lines or spots. Fill boxes with crumpled tissue paper, add jewelry and tie with ribbon.
Tips: 1. By holding heat gun further away from area you can dry larger amounts of stain and create a more dramatic affect. 2. By applying tea leaves from broken bags directly onto boxes and drying you can achieve more texture.
